I'm already excited to get serious and try the "impossible" difficulty. I'm putting the game down for now, but I know for a fact I'll get back to it at some point. It's hilarious, but at the same time, I do feel like the game as a whole COULD have ended on a higher note thematically. Instead, the soldier just says "Nah" and saves the day by defeating both of them like it's nothin'. Maybe the ending could have even been a lot more sinister and apocalyptic, where the player could only destroy either SHODAN or the Many, but not both - meaning that you would have to choose a fate for humanity: Either be enslaved forever by a narcissistic, hateful AI or integrated into a disgusting, parasitic hivemind. I feel like the game could have really benefited from a multiple-ending structure where the player would have to choose based on their own views and beliefs. a sense of community/belonging, but the way the story ends kind of diminishes some of what it built up. The game constantly alludes to the philosophical disparity between SHODAN and the Many and suggests themes such as the values of individualism vs. I will say though that the game does seem just a little rushed / not fully realized at the end. Modern games could learn from how SS2 tells its story honestly. Combined with the visual storytelling, the setting of the Von Braun feels so. The logs really sell the atmosphere of the crew (And eventually the entire ship) gradually being taken over by the Many. I always looked forward to finding more audio logs because they were all so well written and acted (At least in the german version, but I'm sure it's great in english too). I think this game also has some of the best sound design I've ever seen (Or heard, I guess). Sure, I used some texture mods (SHTUP and Four Hundred, nothing too crazy), but I was still amazed at not only how well this game has aged in terms of visuals and audio, but also how well it still plays today. holy shit, this really came out in 1999!? Just beat the game for the first time, and.
